Sustainability Policy

CitadelAero is a member business of the eco active business network, the Government of Jersey's environmental programme for Island businesses. Member since 20 August 2026.

1. Scope and who we are

CitadelAero is the trading name of JLEC Limited, a Jersey company (no. 165488). We sell safety management software, a regulatory AI tool and aviation consultancy, to businesses.

This policy covers the whole of that business. We work from a home office, from co-working space, and at client premises.

It is a public summary. The controlled document behind it is our Environmental Action Plan, which carries the targets, measures and dates in full and is available on request from help@citadelaero.com.

2. eco active membership

Our membership of the eco active business network began on 20 August 2026 and runs to 31 March 2028.

Membership is not a certification and we do not present it as one. It commits us to setting at least two new environmental actions each year — one of which must address carbon or energy — to reporting progress on them in an annual return each 31 March, and to keeping the network informed in between. What it certifies is that we have made those commitments, not that we have achieved any particular outcome.

3. Where our impact actually is

We looked at where a business like ours has an impact before choosing what to do about it. In rough order of significance:

Water use is at domestic scale and we have not invented an action for it.

4. What we have committed to

Our Environmental Action Plan runs from 1 September 2026 to 31 December 2027 and sets four actions, all due by the end of that period.

None of these actions costs us money. The network's training is free to members and the rest is time. If an action did carry a cost we would say so, because a commitment nobody has budgeted for is not a commitment.

We kept the actions small deliberately. This is our first plan, and we would rather finish four straightforward things than half-finish something ambitious.

5. Everyday practice

Alongside the four actions, these are habits rather than targets — small, entirely within our control, and costing nothing:

• Laptops, not desktops. Roughly a tenth of the power for the same work.
• Switched off, not left on standby, at the end of the day and over the weekend.
• Heat the room we are working in, not the whole house.
• LED lighting, and daylight in preference to lights.
• Walk or cycle to town when the weather and the diary allow.
• Two questions before we buy anything: do we need it, and how long will it last.

Our published price list already says that most advisory work is delivered remotely and that we do not charge for travel we do not need. Reducing travel is therefore how the service is sold, rather than something extra to remember.

6. What we do not claim

We think a small business is more useful to its customers when it is straight about the limits of what it has done. So, plainly:

• We are not carbon neutral or net zero, and we do not describe ourselves as either.
• We have not measured our carbon footprint. The figures behind this policy are estimates. Home office electricity in particular shares a meter with a house, so we estimate it from working hours and equipment ratings — and we say that is what we have done.
• We do not offset. We would rather make real reductions first and measure them. We will look at offsetting again at the December 2027 review.
• We have set no travel target yet, because we have no travel data to set one against. Guessing at a percentage would be worse than admitting that.

7. Responsibility, review and reporting

The Director owns this policy and the Environmental Action Plan behind it, delivers the actions, keeps the records and reports at each review. In a one-person business there is nobody else to pass it to, and pretending otherwise would be a governance fiction.

This policy is reissued whenever the plan is reviewed, and whenever an action is finished, changed or added. Where a statement here has stopped being true, we would rather correct it than leave it standing.

8. Where our next actions will come from

• A travel target, once the record kept under Action 3 tells us what our travel actually is.
• A measured carbon figure for the business, replacing the estimates in this policy.
• Making the software itself more efficient. Wasted computing is wasted electricity, and it multiplies with every customer we add.
• More regular involvement with an Island conservation project.
